Damasko

Germany · Founded 1994

German tool-watch manufacture founded in 1994 by engineer Konrad Damasko, who had run a precision-machining workshop from 1989 producing components for aerospace and other industrial applications before moving into watchmaking. Headquartered in Barbing, near Regensburg, Bavaria - a family-owned, small-batch manufacture that markets itself on producing verifiably in Germany. Damasko is best known for a proprietary nickel-free, nitrogen-enriched martensitic stainless-steel alloy hardened to roughly 60-64 HRC ('ice-hardened' steel), giving cases far greater scratch resistance than typical 316L stainless, alongside a separate 'submarine steel' alloy used on its diver-oriented cases; both are usually finished bead-blasted and with Damasko's own DAMEST wear-resistant coating. The company supplied hardened watch cases to German rival Sinn until that partnership ended around 2002, then built out its own case, bracelet, and eventually movement manufacturing. From 2014 Damasko began releasing watches built around its own in-house automatic calibers (the A26 and A35 families, later joined by silicon-spring variants) rather than relying solely on Swiss ETA/Valjoux ebauches, though ETA-based models remain in the catalog alongside them. The DC56 chronograph was certified as an official wristwatch for Eurofighter Typhoon test pilots. Damasko also holds patents covering polycrystalline-silicon components including balance springs (marketed as its EPS balance-spring system), and continues a military/pilot-instrument identity across its DA (three-hand field/pilot), DC (chronograph), DK (pilot/dive with rotating bezel), DS (discontinued three-hand field/dive), and DSub (dedicated deep-diver) lines.
