Parmigiani Fleurier

Switzerland · Founded 1996

Founded in 1996 in Fleurier, Switzerland by master restorer Michel Parmigiani, who spent the 1970s-80s restoring antique clocks and watches, notably the Maurice-Yves Sandoz collection for the Sandoz Family Foundation at the Musee d'Horlogerie du Locle. That restoration relationship led the Foundation to bankroll Parmigiani's own manufacture, and the Foundation remains the brand's controlling owner today, insulating it from the market pressure faced by publicly listed groups. Parmigiani built vertical integration unusually deep for a house of its size: movements from Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier (itself majority Sandoz Foundation-owned and a longtime movement supplier to other independent brands), cases from Les Artisans Boitiers, dials from Quadrance et Habillage, and balance springs/small components from Atokalpa - all Sandoz Foundation-backed Val-de-Travers workshops. Best known for the Toric (the brand's founding, fluted-bezel line) and Tonda families (the ultra-thin Tonda 1950 and the modern integrated-sports Tonda PF/Tonda PF Sport), plus the architecturally radical, engine-inspired Bugatti Type 370. CEO Guido Terreni (formerly of Bulgari) took over in January 2021 and repositioned the brand around the Tonda PF line launched that year. Historically also produced the Kalpa tonneau-shaped family (formerly named Forma) and the Pershing line for the yacht/sports-watch market.
