Perrelet

Switzerland · Founded 1995

Modern Swiss brand headquartered in Biel/Bienne, producing roughly 30,000 watches a year. Bears the name of Abraham-Louis Perrelet (1728-1826), a Le Locle horologist credited with inventing a self-winding (oscillating-weight) watch mechanism around 1777 -- but the commercial company is a 20th-century revival, not a continuously operating 18th-century firm: the Perrelet name was relaunched in 1995 with the 'Double Rotor' model, a double-rotor automatic conceived as homage to the founder's self-winding concept. Acquired in 2004 by Miguel Rodriguez of the Barcelona-based Festina Group, which remains the owner. Best known for the 2009 'Turbine' collection, whose dial-side rotor is reworked into a multi-blade titanium turbine visible through an aperture, and for the companion women's 'Diamond Flower' line launched the same year.
