Rado
Switzerland · Founded 1917
Founded 1917 in Lengnau, Switzerland by brothers Fritz, Ernst, and Werner Schlup as a movement-manufacturing business, Schlup & Co. The Rado brand name (Esperanto for 'wheel') was introduced in 1957 alongside the Golden Horse. Now part of the Swatch Group. Rado's identity is built on materials innovation, especially high-tech ceramic and scratch-resistant 'hardmetal' construction, more than movement manufacturing (movements are largely ETA/Swatch Group Powermatic-based). Confirmed via Wikipedia and cross-referenced brand-history pieces (teddybaldassarre.com, weknowwatches.com). Exact Swatch Group acquisition date not independently confirmed here (sources vary between 1983 group formation and 1986).
