Raymond Weil
Switzerland · Founded 1976
Founded in Geneva in 1976 by Raymond Weil, with co-founder Simone Bedat (Wikipedia; other secondary sources name a son-in-law/co-founder instead -- exact founding-partner details vary across sources and are not fully reconciled here). Weil reportedly began by selling his own designs from a market stall in Geneva. The company remains independently and privately held -- one of the last major Swiss watch brands not owned by a conglomerate. Raymond Weil retired in 2002 and died in January 2014; his grandson Elie Bernheim has been CEO since 2014, with Olivier Bernheim as President. Bedat departed in 1996 with her son to found Bedat & Co. The brand is closely associated with classical music/opera-themed collection names (Parsifal, Maestro, Nabucco, Don Giovanni, Toccata, Tango, Amadeus, Otello, Fidelio historically), reflecting a long-running patronage of music education (VH1 Save The Music Foundation, Brit Awards sponsorship, etc). The 2023 Millesime Small Seconds won the Challenge Prize at the GPHG (Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Geneve). 2026 is the brand's 50th anniversary, marked by a limited-edition piece ('The Fifty') built around a restored vintage 1976 chronograph movement. Confirmed via Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raymond_Weil) and current raymond-weil.com site content; historical/discontinued model-line details below are lower confidence since they rely on secondary/marketplace listings rather than brand archives.
