Richard Mille

Switzerland · Founded 2001

Founded in 2001 by French watch executive Richard Mille (b. 1951, Draguignan, France) together with Dominique Guenat, a fifth-generation Swiss watchmaker/case-maker. Headquartered and manufactured in Les Breuleux, Jura, Switzerland (Swiss Made); the Richard Mille Group comprises five linked entities: Horometrie SA (distribution), Guenat SA Montres Valgine (movement conception/assembly), ProArt (component manufacture), VMDH (case decoration), and Cercle d'Art (publishing). Best known for skeletonized, tonneau-shaped cases and pioneering use of exotic materials -- Carbon TPT, Graph TPT (graphene-enhanced carbon), Quartz TPT, TitaCarb, ceramics (TZP, Cermet), sapphire-crystal cases, and the proprietary LITAL titanium-lithium alloy -- much of it co-developed with composite specialist North Thin Ply Technology (NTPT). Watches are famously expensive, typically running from roughly six figures into the millions of dollars, and the brand is frequently cited among the world's most expensive watchmakers. High-profile ambassador partnerships have driven product design and marketing, including tennis player Rafael Nadal (since 2010, subjected to on-court stress testing), Formula 1 drivers including Felipe Massa, a 2016-2025 title partnership with the McLaren F1 team, a Scuderia Ferrari partnership from 2021, and golfer Bubba Watson. The company reported roughly 4,800 watches produced in 2018 against a cumulative total of about 32,000 sold between 2001 and 2017.
