Roger Dubuis
Switzerland · Founded 1995
Geneva manufacture founded in 1995 by watchmaker Roger Dubuis (1938–2017), a Patek Philippe alumnus, together with businessman Carlos Dias. Built a purpose-designed manufacture in Meyrin, in the Canton of Geneva, inaugurated in the early 2000s, where most movement components are produced and finished in-house. Richemont acquired a controlling stake in 2007–2008 and took full ownership by 2016. Roger Dubuis's defining distinction is that virtually every movement it produces — not just a flagship few — carries the Poinçon de Genève (Geneva Seal), historically the strictest hallmark in Swiss watchmaking, applied here to the entire watch rather than only the movement. Known for heavily skeletonized, angular, avant-garde case architecture, most visibly the three-point “tri-lug” Excalibur case, and for pushing openworked and tourbillon calibres (RD01SQ, RD820SQ and related families) as a house signature rather than an occasional complication. Peak annual production before the 2008 financial crisis was roughly 25,000 watches; current output is a deliberately smaller, higher-end run of around 5,000 pieces a year. The brand is the official watch partner of the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique and has run collaborations with Pirelli and Lamborghini under the Excalibur Spider line.
