Weiss Watch Company

United States · Founded 2013

American manufacture founded in Los Angeles in 2013 by watchmaker Cameron Weiss (and his wife Whitney), who trained at the Nicolas G. Hayek Watchmaking School and earned WOSTEP certification before working with Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin watchmakers. The company relocated to Nashville, Tennessee in 2020, opening a studio and boutique there in 2024. Weiss's central claim to fame is the hand-wound Caliber 1003, an in-house-branded movement based on the Unitas/ETA 6497-6498 architecture but substantially reworked and hand-finished domestically, marketed under the banner 'Restoring Prestige to American Watchmaking' as one of the first mechanical watch movements meaningfully manufactured on US soil in decades. The brand's claims about how much of that movement is actually US-made have shifted over time and should be read carefully: contemporaneous third-party coverage (Monochrome Watches' 2019 review of the American Issue Field Watch) cited a figure of 'over 95% produced in California,' with jewels and mainsprings acknowledged as externally sourced. Weiss's current (2026) official messaging is considerably more measured and no longer states a specific percentage, saying only that it 'works with both American-made and imported components, with movement and material origins disclosed by model,' and that in-house manufacture of movements/components is now limited to 'private commissions and limited allocations' rather than the full catalog. Later Standard Issue automatic models use the Weiss Caliber 2130, built around an outsourced Swiss ETA/Vaucher 2892-A2 base rather than the in-house Caliber 1003.
